Last year we had a peek at what the blue-blazed Mattatuck trail has to offer, and it was so great that this year we’d planned going all the way: all the way through Warren, from Cornwall Bridge to the Washington border - around 7.5 miles.
However, in light of the COVID-19 public health crisis, WE NEED TO DO TRAILS DAY DIFFERENTLY THIS YEAR — DIY STYLE! Celebrate Trails Day by taking this hike on your own, either this weekend, or any time!
Go for the whole distance, or stop midway at the Hardscrabble Road entrance to the trail (4 miles in). Some water crossings and moderately challenging terrain. Appropriate footwear, tick-resistant clothing and refreshments recommended. Dogs on leashes welcome.
Start on Flat Rocks Road just east of Melius Road; there is a turn off on the right-hand side of the road. The first half of the walk will take approximately 2.5 hours each way; the second half should take another 2 hours or so each way.
